For those with a pull toward entrepreneurship, the nagging drive for autonomy never seems to wane.<\/p>\n<p>Some know sooner than others that business ownership is for them. Others move in that direction, not because the entrepreneurial seed was planted long ago, but, because circumstances push them there out of necessity.\u00a0Some of these circumstances include corporate down-sizing, working in a shrinking field, outdated skills in an industry, or difficulty finding employment due to factors such as being \u201ctoo young\u201d or \u201ctoo old.\u201d\u00a0Whatever\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/article\/282037\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"follow\">your entrepreneurial origin story<\/a>, I want to share some insights about who you are as an entrepreneur to help you avoid being forced to make an entrepreneurial exit.<\/p>\n<div class=\"teads-adCall\"><\/div>\n<p>There were reasons you didn\u2019t feel suited to be an employee, so the last thing you want to do is set yourself up for failure and have to return to life as an employee.<\/p>\n<p>Before we dive into\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/article\/249090\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"follow\">deepening your understanding of your wiring<\/a>, let\u2019s look at some statistics, in case you\u2019re not yet an entrepreneur but you\u2019re thinking about making that leap.\u00a0The consulting firm, McKinsey, describes the MENA region as a \u201cburgeoning startup ecosystem\u201d which has largely untapped potential. They also state corporate venture capital funds are quickly emerging in the developing MENA investment ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>Two reasons McKinsey cites for MENA\u2019s entrepreneurial potential are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>60%\u00a0of the overall MENA population is under the age of 30<\/li>\n<li>Smart phone uptake is at 94%, with three hours daily spent on these devices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to the 2017 Global Startup Genome Ecosystem Report (a survey which ranks global cities according to their ability to create environments in which startups thrive) not a single Arab country was represented. World Bank reports the UAE is the easiest Arab country to run a startup, but it\u2019s still more difficult than many places in the rest of the world.\u00a0So, there\u2019s good news (enormous potential) and not-so-good news (barriers to entry) and I want to make sure that you, yourself, are not a barrier to your startup\u2019s success.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Top 10 Entrepreneurial Talents<\/b><br \/>\nThe Gallup organization performed a study on successful entrepreneurs and boiled their success down to 10 specific talents. These are:<\/p>\n<p><i>Determination:\u00a0<\/i>Persistence is required in business ownership because roadblocks are going to surface. If you\u2019re not prepared to bring tenacity to the table, that\u2019s a risk to your business.<\/p>\n<p><i>Confidence:\u00a0<\/i>If you don\u2019t have a clear sense of your abilities, you\u2019re less likely to seize on opportunities where you are likely to succeed. The good news? Simply increasing awareness of your talents contributes to increased confidence.<\/p>\n<p><i>Knowledge-Seeker:\u00a0<\/i>People with this talent are prone to seek as much information as they can about their business. Armed with this knowledge, an entrepreneur is much more likely to be able to solve their complex business challenges.<\/p>\n<p><i>Relationship-Builder:\u00a0<\/i>Those with a relationship-building orientation have the interpersonal skills necessary to build a strong network of relationships, which helps their business succeed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"npx92l1fws\" class=\"banner-ad adbox adbox--called offset offset-none adbox--handled\" data-key=\"a2ad\" data-google-query-id=\"CIvOhtDJ6uACFS4FBgAddOYLcw\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/6280\/Entrepreneur-me\/article_5__container__\"><iframe id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/6280\/Entrepreneur-me\/article_5\" title=\"3rd party ad content\" name=\"google_ads_iframe_\/6280\/Entrepreneur-me\/article_5\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" data-google-container-id=\"b\" data-load-complete=\"true\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><i>Disruptor:\u00a0<\/i>These entrepreneurs are creative thinkers who come up with new products and services regularly. They identify customer needs proactively and have a curious intellect that makes them quick learners.<\/p>\n<p><i>Risk-Taker:\u00a0<\/i>Quite simply, entrepreneurs strong in risk-taking focus more on the potential for reward than the potential for failure.<\/p>\n<p><i>Independence:\u00a0<\/i>An independent business owner can run a business solo. Meaning, they don\u2019t need others to set goals for them and can juggle and follow through on their priorities independently.<\/p>\n<p><i>Delegator:\u00a0<\/i>Entrepreneurs that try to do it all and don\u2019t let things go stunt business growth. Scalable business models require business owners to align their activities with their strengths and stay in their lane, which includes delegating not only tasks, but delegating authority to others. Ouch!<\/p>\n<p><i>Selling:\u00a0<\/i>To be a strong seller, you must be able to clearly communicate the message of your business in a persuasive manner. These entrepreneurs are true ambassadors for their business!<\/p>\n<p><i>Profitability:\u00a0<\/i>Entrepreneurs with this talent view all business decisions through the prism of profitability. You must know your sources of revenue, your expenses and set clear goals for the financial growth of your company. Someone needs to be keeping their mind on your dirhams and your dirhams on their mind (if it\u2019s not you).<\/p>\n<p>Curious to know what kind of entrepreneur you are? The Gallup organization offers an entrepreneurial talent assessment called the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallupstrengthscenter.com\/help\/en-us\/faq-item\/genfaq27?type=GEN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Builder 10 profile<\/a>\u00a0based on the above 10 talents.<\/p>\n<p>However, information without application won\u2019t lead to transformation.<\/p>\n<p>Once you know your entrepreneurial talents and challenges, you will need to shape your role in your company around the strengths that are going to give you the greatest return on investment.\u00a0You must also intentionally surround yourself with trusted advisors and the right people in the right roles (aligned to\u00a0<i>their<\/i>\u00a0strengths) to compensate for your weaknesses.\u00a0For example, I am dominant in the top 8 talents with\u00a0<i>selling<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>profitability<\/i>\u00a0as moderate, or supporting, talents. This means I must work at these two things intentionally to be effective. Most of the time, when we\u2019re busy and stretched thin, we\u2019re not going to take time to apply conscious effort to activities and skills where we\u2019re not strongly oriented.\u00a0Knowing this, I hired a VP of Operations for my company,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.myyoumap.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">YouMap\u00a0LLC<\/a>, who possesses these talents naturally.
