Let\u2019s look at the facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>As of 2019, there are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wearesocial.com\/global-digital-report-2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4.39 billion Internet users<\/a>&nbsp;in the world.<\/li><li>Facebook, the social media giant, has 2.32 billion \u2014 over half of that.<\/li><li>There are five more&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/272014\/global-social-networks-ranked-by-number-of-users\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">platforms with over a billion users<\/a>&nbsp;(YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, Instagram).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While Google is still the best at directing visitors to sites, you can\u2019t look at those numbers without being impressed. Turning to social media for extra traffic is a very worthy investment \u2014 if you play your cards right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arguably, it\u2019s easier than trying to rank in Google since you\u2019ve already done most of your work elsewhere \u2014 namely, on your own website. That doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s a total walk in the park, especially if you aren\u2019t already a big and famous brand. But if others do it, and you want to do it too, why run from the challenge?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So let\u2019s go through the hows of getting as much social media traffic as humanly possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stage 1: Prepare your social media pages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, you need to exist in social media before you can start using it as your traffic machine. Less obvious are the details of it. These are the elements that will lay the foundation of your social stronghold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your personal pages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Which would you prefer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A. Talking to a person;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B. Or talking to a brand with a logo for its face?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most people will choose option A 100% of the time. It makes interactions more personal and instills trust much better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019ve chosen which social platforms you are going to use, set up your personal accounts there \u2013 with your name and face. (If you already have them, great!) Be your own representative. Encourage others on your team to do the same, as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Personal pages are also needed to build and expand your network, but we\u2019ll get there later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your business pages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The personal factor makes it easier to drive users to your site from your own pages. Facebook influencers in particular often forego the whole business page part and just post everything under their own name. Here\u2019s what your pages need to make your first impression count:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Unique name<\/li><li>Unique logo<\/li><li>URL with your site\u2019s name<\/li><li>Cover image<\/li><li>What your site is and what it does (usually in an \u201cAbout\u201d section)<\/li><li>Contact information<\/li><li>Link to your site<\/li><li>Pictures that capture the essence of your site in the gallery<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember to share the business pages\u2019 updates on your own pages and ask your associates to do the same!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Platforms you\u2019ll be using<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone can name several big social media platforms without thinking: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, Reddit, Quora and others. It\u2019s safe to choose any one of them for promoting your website. In fact, there\u2019s no reason not to choose all of them, as long as your content is a good match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some platforms may need a more delicate approach than others, though. For instance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Reddit users are wary of advertisements. Brand-promoting threads get downvoted and hidden.<\/li><li>Twitter is notorious for its character limit.<\/li><li>Quora is a Q&amp;A platform where sponsored articles can be disguised as questions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Updates you\u2019ll be posting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are billions of users in the world, but your target audience will be only a fraction of that. Design your updates to click with the people you want to bring to your site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you know your audience well? What kind of content would they like the most? There will likely be more than one answer, and it can range anywhere between \u201cfunny\u201d and \u201cprofessional.\u201d You might want to experiment with several different moods to see which work the best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only two traits that apply universally to all users are \u201ccaters to their interests\u201d and \u201cattention-grabbing.\u201d Only you will know what the rest are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stage 2: Prepare your site and content<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s remember rule number one of the Internet: content is king. Excellent content on your site is a must in social media promotion, too \u2014 even if you don\u2019t directly post it there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagine this scenario. Users visit your social media page and click on a link in one of your updates. It takes them to your site, they see your content and\u2026 it\u2019s bad. What do you think will happen next? You guessed it: users will bounce and never click on another of your links in social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And we can\u2019t have that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Driving traffic is about both attracting new users&nbsp;<em>and<\/em>&nbsp;keeping your old users. For the latter, it\u2019s even more important to watch the quality of your content. If it changes, it must only change for the better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stage 3: Direct users from social media to your site<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Okay, the preparations have been made. Time to start doing what you came here for \u2014 generating traffic. The more of it, the better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Post often.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Users get tons of updates from many different sources in their feed. The more of those updates are yours, the greater your chances of getting more clicks. Post on your page at least several times a week; if you can make multiple updates in a single day, that\u2019s even better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Post different types of content.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s more interesting when you can present more than just text and images. Most platforms support many more formats, such as videos, polls, slideshows. You can even get creative with the usual \u201cboring\u201d types of content and turn them into something more fun, like a game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Share other people\u2019s content.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only will these content writers appreciate what you did, they\u2019ll also receive a notification and be introduced to your brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Repost your own content.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This works surprisingly well, since users often miss updates in social media. Of course, it\u2019s best not to take any risks and update the reposted content beforehand, so that the users who\u2019ve seen it before will have a reason to click on it again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ask users to engage with your updates.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Even something as simple as \u201csubscribe for more updates\u201d works, but it certainly doesn\u2019t hurt to put more thought into it. Keep getting new friends and followers and never stop. You can find them on your pages, but there will be countless more on others.
