Besides paying with your phone<\/a> at retailers, Google Pay features peer-to-peer capabilities that are a remnant of Google Wallet<\/a>. The company just announced that it\u2019s killing Google Pay Send P2P features in the UK this September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The email to United Kingdom users today reveals the \u201cEnd of the Google Pay P2P service\u201d on September 6, 2019. This includes sending or requesting money in the Google Pay apps for Android, iOS, and the web<\/a>. However, this will also affect Pay Send capabilities in Gmail<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are announcing the end of Google Pay P2P, our peer-to-peer (P2P) payments service, in the United Kingdom. Starting from 6 September 2019, you\u2019ll no longer be able to send and request money through Google Pay\u2019s P2P service in Gmail or on pay.google.com<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The P2P service will continue to function until then in the UK, with Google advising users to transfer any existing balance into a bank account by September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have a net positive Google Pay balance in your account with us, you can transfer these funds to your bank account. Please sign in to your Google payments profile<\/a> to transfer your balance into a bank account.<\/p>

If you have a zero balance in your account, no further action is required on your part.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

When Google Pay launched<\/a> early last year, the Google Wallet app was initially rebranded to Google Pay Send. Later on, peer-to-peer payments were integrated directly<\/a> into the main application as a new tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the moment, Google only appears to be killing Pay P2P functionality in the UK. All other Google Pay features like paying with credit\/debit cards stored on your phone at physical retailers or apps should be unaffected. Just last month, the service added \u201cpay per ride\u201d support for London transit<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Google Pay is available around the world, Pay Send and P2P is only available<\/a> in the US and UK. So far, users stateside have yet to receive a similar message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve reached out to Google for comment, with several big questions up in the air. Namely, why this isoccurring and whether Google will be offering a replacement P2P service for those in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
