It&#8217;s similar to Amazon&#8217;s recommendations based on your past actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pinterest is also adding an&nbsp;updated shopping section below Pins from certain businesses, which will showcase expanded brand catalogs based on the items you&#8217;ve shown an interest in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.socialmediatoday.com\/user_media\/diveimage\/pin_update2.png\" alt=\"Pinterest adds new personalized recommendations\" \/><figcaption>Pinterest adds new personalized recommendations<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The new, expanded listings will provide new opportunities for brands to showcase more of their products to interested Pinners. In the initial roll-out, Pinterest will add these expanded listings on Pins from&nbsp;brands like&nbsp;Target,&nbsp;Birdies Slippers,&nbsp;Joybird,&nbsp;The Tie Bar, and&nbsp;Parachute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As noted, Pinterest has been gradually moving away from its social media roots, and more towards eCommerce and product listings. As part of its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/1579086\/pinterest-is-distancing-itself-from-social-networks-as-it-goes-public\/\">broader pitch<\/a>&nbsp;ahead of its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialmediatoday.com\/news\/pinterest-is-filing-for-an-ipo-how-will-that-change-the-platform\/549027\/\">IPO<\/a>, Pinterest stated that it&nbsp;wants people to think of it as a \u201cplace for inspiration\u201d rather than as a social network &#8211; and as such, Pinterest&#8217;s updates and improvements have been more focused on connecting people to products, as opposed to other people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tools like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialmediatoday.com\/social-business\/pinterest-takes-visual-discovery-next-level-pinterest-lens\">Pinterest Lens<\/a>, &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialmediatoday.com\/news\/pinterest-adds-new-discovery-options-including-lens-your-look-and-pinco\/510900\/\">Shop the Look<\/a>&#8216; and others expand on this capacity, and those efforts are clearly working. A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/business.pinterest.com\/en\/blog\/research-retail-brands-can-see-2x-higher-returns-on-pinterest-than-other-digital-channels\">recent survey by Neustar<\/a>&nbsp;found that retail brands saw a&nbsp;2x higher return on ad spend from Pinterest than from other social networks,&nbsp;and a 1.3x higher return than from traditional search. That comes in addition to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialmediatoday.com\/news\/pinterest-releases-new-data-on-how-the-platform-influences-purchase-behavio\/518828\/\">previous data<\/a>&nbsp;which has shown that \u200bPinterest is much better at driving purchase intent than other social platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s clear that there&#8217;s a lot of potential for retailers in Pins, and these new tools will further add to that capacity.
