While I admired his impressive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/social-media\/\">social media<\/a> anniversary, I racked my brain to try and remember the last time he\u2019d shared anything other than a random sports meme or a vitriolic rant about the drivers he encountered on his morning commute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also wondered why then he kept up his Twitter account at all, since to the uninitiated this smart and multi-faceted human doesn\u2019t come across as smart \u2014 much less as successful \u2014 as he is in real life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theladders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/social-media-190930-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"Is it time for a social media makeover? 6 tips to build your brand\" \/><figcaption>Is it time for a social media makeover? 6 tips to build your brand<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the past few years, social media has taught us that it\u2019s entirely possible to hold an esteemed political office without any obvious social media strategy. For the rest of us who are either building our networks or hoping to connect with like-minded professionals, there needs to be some sort of plan driving our online connections and interactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t wait until it gets stale: Bruce Mendelsohn, Principal of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-hired-pen.com\/\">The Hired Pen<\/a>, a digital marketing and communications consultancy, shared some advice he offers his own clients. \u201cI advise my clients to update (change) their social media profiles as often as they change batteries in their smoke alarms,\u201d or about every six months. In that way, you\u2019re sure that people won\u2019t tune you out or think your content is no longer relevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Mendelsohn explains it, \u201cMost people are still trying to understand that consistent social media monitoring, auditing and makeovers are essential to protect their personal brand and\/or their business brand.
