Microsoft <\/a>Windows 10 users, I feel for you. Following a run of frustrating<\/a>, limiting<\/a>, chaotic<\/a> and quite bizarre<\/a> update problems (and a whistleblower<\/a>), one the worst updates in some time has struck again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Picked up by both TechDows<\/a> and MSPoweruser<\/a>, they are warning the KB4517389 update (which is already causing Start Menu, search and browser problems<\/a>) is now causing the dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD<\/a>) on some PCs as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this stage, it isn\u2019t clear what is the cause with users citing BSOD failures with cldflt.sys<\/a>, Affinity applications<\/a> and more but all have found that uninstalling KB4517389 fixes the problem, which pins the source squarely this already troubled update<\/a>. Needless to say, the problem with a BSOD bug is you may not be lucky enough to get back to your desktop to do this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are, then navigate to Control Panel > Programs >  Programs and Features > Installed updates > KB4517389 > Uninstall<\/em>

KB4517389 has already rolled out to millions of users but for hundreds of millions who have not received it yet, use Microsoft\u2019s Show or Hide updates tool<\/a> to block it from installing on your PC.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But perhaps what is most concerning about KB4517389 is Microsoft\u2019s attitude towards it. Despite confirming<\/a> earlier issues with the update already, the official KB4517389 page<\/a> still states \u201cMicrosoft is not currently aware of any issues with this update.\u201d This has happened before<\/a>, and if anyone relies on the update pages to make their update decisions, they could be walking into a world of hurt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To Microsoft<\/a>\u2019s credit, the company is about to make fundamental changes to Windows 10 updates<\/a> but, the company\u2019s bug checking processes throughout testing remain a worry. As recently exposed by an ex-Microsoft employee in the video below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the Windows 10 update problems continue to mount. Adding the BSOD reports to the list, since September there have now been boot failures, broken printing<\/a>, Search and Start Menu bugs<\/a> (yes, again), USB and audio problems<\/a>, screen discolouration<\/a>, spiked CPU usage<\/a> and broken Internet connectivity<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Microsoft now forcing one of its buggiest Windows 10 builds on users<\/a>, I expect to be back with reports of more problems soon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
