His 360 feedback results showed that he didn\u2019t have any serious development areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is well-liked, respected and trusted by stakeholders, but John is restless. With his eyes fixed on the top, he pushes himself for agile transformation, works long hours and travels frequently to engage global teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thumbor.forbes.com\/thumbor\/960x0\/https%3A%2F%2Fspecials-images.forbesimg.com%2Fdam%2Fimageserve%2F539441078%2F960x0.jpg%3Ffit%3Dscale\" alt=\"Leadership Lessons From Ant &amp; Grasshopper \" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Bill continued, \u201cGiven your performance, there\u2019s no reason why you shouldn\u2019t think about running a large corporation in a few years. But leaders at the top need support from those who truly care about them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you come home after a hard day of work, you want to see a loving family waiting for you. You need to nurture the relationships while they are around.\u201d Bill must have sensed that John\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/business\/\">work-life integration<\/a> is not optimal. In fact, John himself was concerned about his fitness level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the past five years, I\u2019ve noticed more senior leaders name work-life integration or resilience as one of their improvement areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to David Whyte, author of\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Three-Marriages-Reimagining-Work-Relationship\/dp\/159448435X\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Three Marriages<\/em><\/a>, \u201cHumans aren\u2019t just in one marriage with a significant other. We have made secret vows to our work and unspoken vows to a constantly developing inner self.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He asserts that sacrificing one marriage for any of the others will create deep psychological damages. Yet high-performing leaders often admit their strongest marriage is to work. Working mothers confide that their marriage to the self is the weakest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three marriages are integrated like the ancient spiral of life; however, strong marriages start with a good marriage to the self.
