As adults in a fast-paced world, those words are easy to forget. That\u2019s especially true in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/business\/\">business<\/a>, where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/business\/\">making goals<\/a> often is prioritized more than making connections. Don\u2019t think like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People need a leader who supports and appreciates them. Leaders won&#8217;t grow their companies without realizing how to show gratitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recognition and support from leadership are two of today\u2019s most important factors for retention, according to Deloitte\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www2.deloitte.com\/ie\/en\/pages\/human-capital\/articles\/talent-2020.html\" target=\"_blank\">Talent 2020 survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though it sounds simple, it\u2019s not.\u00a0Leading with gratitude requires mindfulness and attention. It\u2019s an intentional experience, not a passive one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At my company, I make a conscious effort to thank my team daily for their efforts, and I\u2019m specific about highlighting exactly what they did to make me thankful. A mere, &#8220;Thanks for all you do&#8221; won&#8217;t suffice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To give a team member a better sense of appreciation, I might say, \u201cThank you for delivering that presentation deck before the deadline. It will help us secure this client.\u201d Showing how they\u2019re contributing to the bigger picture is key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leaders who adopt a mindset of gratitude might be taken aback by the results. We\u2019ve seen quite a few benefits from consciously and proactively prioritizing appreciation for our people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.entrepreneur.com\/content\/3x2\/2000\/20200103160532-GettyImages-1152268828.jpeg?width=700&amp;crop=2:1\" alt=\"How to Build Buy-In By Saying 'Thank You' \" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For one, there\u2019s less stress in the office when people feel valued. By fostering an environment of connectivity and belonging, people are less on edge &#8212; even when they know they might miss a deadline. It makes for a close-knit, happy place to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team is more productive as a whole, and folks don\u2019t hesitate to work outside normal hours &#8212; often without being asked &#8212; because they know how much we appreciate those contributions. Team members have higher levels of confidence and self-esteem, which has led to the launch of new and innovative projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The best part about those projects has been the willingness of team members to learn new skills and work in new areas as they feel more confident in their abilities.
