What will this historic year hold for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/business\/\">management accounting profession<\/a>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Technology and economic disruption are poised to reshape accounting and finance as we once knew it, demanding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/business\/\">management accountants<\/a> rethink their very roles and functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve written about these trends in\u00a0<em>Forbes<\/em>\u00a0before, but as we prepare for the new year, I thought I\u2019d poll some members of the IMA\u00ae (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/business\/\">Institute of Management Accountant<\/a>) Global Board of Directors about what they think \u00a0the profession must do to thrive in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their responses should be helpful to those management accounting professionals who are looking to advance their skills and competencies for 2020 and beyond. I polled them on four key areas, critical to the future of the profession: Technology and Data Analytics, Decision Making and Strategy, Global Operations and 21<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;Century Finance Professionals \u201cComing of Age.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Technology and Data Analytics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/specials-images.forbesimg.com\/imageserve\/1170279309\/960x0.jpg?fit=scale\" alt=\"What Does 2020 Hold for Management Accountants? \" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s probably no surprise that advances in technology loom large in experts\u2019 2020 forecasts. \u201cThe more tedious transactional work will continue to contract and get automated, Big Data and machine learning will enable insights and analysis like never before,\u201d according to Esteban Quiros, CMA, global FP&amp;A manager for Procter &amp; Gamble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rise of Big Data enables professionals to accumulate information at an unprecedented scale, but knowing how to obtain and use it is a different story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom my perspective, management accounting is impacted by the massive advance in the area of Data Analytics,\u201d says Fatema El-Wakeel, CMA, finance business partner for data analytics at a U.K.-based luxury car manufacturer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cData Analytics involves things like Data Engineering and cleansing, modelling and of course delivering the message through visualization\u2026Technology has enabled management accountants to deliver on-the-the job more efficiently and effectively, which will be needed for [the profession] to advance in 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read more:  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jeffthomson\/2020\/01\/06\/what-does-2020-hold-for-management-accountants\/#58fc3f9370ef\">https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jeffthomson\/2020\/01\/06\/what-does-2020-hold-for-management-accountants\/#58fc3f9370ef<\/a> <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What Does 2020 Hold for Management Accountants?
