In reality, your challenge has just begun.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing I have learned the hard way in business is that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/dan-ruch\/six-steps-for-successfully-implementing-new-techno.html\">implementing<\/a>&nbsp;new ideas is usually much more difficult than conceiving the idea in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s why I caution my&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/debbie-madden\/10-brutal-truths-every-aspiring-entrepreneur-needs-to-hear-right-now.html\">aspiring entrepreneur<\/a>&nbsp;clients against proclaiming to investors that they are a great&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/penelope-trunk\/how-to-tell-if-you-have-a-great-idea.html\">&#8220;idea&#8221; person<\/a>. The bridge from thinking and talking, to doing, is a long and difficult one for many to get over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, I have a friend with a Ph.D. in Physics who talks passionately about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/business\/\">\\<\/a> producing nuclear powered batteries.\u00a0I have tried to\u00a0convince him the general idea alone does not make a business.\u00a0His challenge is to focus on one market, consumer or commercial, with a specific design, cost, and price. Then, he&#8217;ll need to patent it and create a\u00a0plan to show opportunity, competition, and financial projections. Yes, there are a lot of bridges to cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/business\/\">creating a business<\/a> requires leading and interacting with other people, including partners, investors, and customers. And you&#8217;re not done yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, implementation requires a commitment of real money and other resources that can&#8217;t be written off so easily as an idea ahead of it&#8217;s time. Yet there are clearly some positive steps I can recommend for getting you (and him) across those\u00a0bridges to build a business that has a shot at success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.entrepreneur.com\/content\/3x2\/2000\/20170814221250-GettyImages-184313810.jpeg\" alt=\"Bridge the Gap from Business Idea to Startup\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.&nbsp;Find a co-founder who has been there and done that.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At least the first time around, it pays big dividends for an idea person to find a partner with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/business\/\">business skills<\/a> you haven&#8217;t tested yet. Don&#8217;t assume you can outsource the implementation decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You need someone you can trust and learn from every day, with equal &#8220;skin in the game.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, I often cite the relationship between\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/peter-cohan\/8-leadership-insights-from-bill-gates-and-steve-ballmer.html\">Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer<\/a>, who grew <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/technology\/\">Microsoft<\/a> together.
