The retailer enacted this social change with the recently launched \u201cFamous Visitors\u201d campaign,\u00a0which touted the ability to order what you need online and pick it up curbside, but the effort to be more conversational and reactive will continue as the brand aims to transform its social presence. Doing so has increased mobile app downloads for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/business\/\">Walmart<\/a> increased 50% week-over-week (the retailer declined to share from what it increased from and what it increased to).Currently, Walmart is the number two shopping app in the Apple app store (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/business\/\">Amazon<\/a> is number one).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.smartbrief.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/article_summary_full_width\/public\/externals\/93af7cc1e5b17cb1e56ecf31465c2b1d.jpg?itok=kA1EbdD8\" alt=\"Walmart\u2019s new social media strategy\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The new approach to social kicked off during the Super Bowl as the retailer talked to 171 other brand accounts on Twitter. Some of the conversations were planned, like those with Lego or Pepsi, as the brands were featured in Walmart\u2019s 60-second Super Bowl spot, which was the first time the retailer has advertised during the game. Others, like Avocados from Mexico, happened on the spot and Walmart\u2019s six-person in-house creative team worked to craft quick replies to the unexpected brand account replies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis was a first for us and the social team\u2019s role in that was bigger [than ever before],\u201d said Jodi Durkin, director of brand social, Walmart. \u201cThe \u2018bantering\u2019 is part of our on-going strategy.
