Now, as more startups are getting onboard, things are getting downright exciting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A small but growing number of projects are building web browsers with a more specific type of user in mind. Whether that perceived user is prioritizing improved speed, organization or toolsets aligned with their workflow, entrepreneurs are building these projects with the assumption that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/crunchbase.com\/organization\/google\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0one-size-fits-all approach with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/startup\/\">Chrome<\/a> leaves plenty of users with a suboptimal experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building a modern web browser from scratch isn\u2019t the most feasible challenge for a small startup. Luckily open-source projects have enabled developers to build their evolved web browsers on the bones of the apps they aim to compete with. For browsers that are not Safari, Firefox, Chrome or a handful of others, Google\u2019s Chromium open-source project has proven to be an invaluable asset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Google first released Chrome in late 2008, the company has also been updating Chromium. The source code powers\u00a0the Microsoft Edge and Opera web browsers, but also allows smaller developer teams to harness the power of Chrome when building their own apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/GettyImages-1219854221.jpeg?w=600\" alt=\"Investors are browsing for Chromium startups\" \/><figcaption>Investors are browsing for Chromium startups<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>These upstart browsers have generally sought to compete with the dominant powers on the privacy front, but as Chrome and Safari have begun shipping more features to help users manage how they are tracked online, entrepreneurs are widening their product ambitions to tackle usability upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aiding these heightened ambitions is increased attention on custom browsers from investors.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/crunchbase.com\/organization\/mozilla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mozilla\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0co-founder Brendan Eich\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brave.com\/\">Brave<\/a>\u00a0has continued to scale, announcing last month they had 5 million daily active users of their privacy-centric browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/crunchbase.com\/organization\/thrive-capital\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Thrive Capital\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0Josh Miller spoke with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazzlepop.net\/site\/category\/startup\/\">TechCrunch<\/a> about his project\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thebrowser.company\/\">The Browser Company<\/a>\u00a0which has raised $5 million from some notable Silicon Valley operators.
