A lot of people talk about what they want in business and in life—more clients, more money, more free time, more fulfilling projects.

And a lot of people get inspired, get motivated, and make plans to go for the gold, determined to make all their dreams come true.

How To Be Unstoppable In 2020

But what happens?

Life happens.

We’ve all heard the excuses, and we’ve all made the excuses. You’re about to commit to making something big happen, and then you find a leak in the roof and decide you need to focus your time and resources there. A sick child derails your plans. A client you thought was going to close disappears on you.

And now you don’t feel like you have enough time, money, or energy, so you put that inspiration and motivation on the back burner for a better time. A time when things will be more stable. A time when taking the leap will be more comfortable.

But I’m here to tell you things are always going to come up. Especially if you’ve got a business, a family, kids—any sort of outside life. There will always be reasons not to do something.

Some people look for excuses because they never had any intention of going after their dreams. Thinking about the possibilities is enough. They might think they want bigger things because they see that ideal all around them (especially on social media), but they are actually fine staying where they are.

If that’s you, own it! Be content with what you have. You have no reason not to be. In fact, it’s beautiful and rare to be content with the present.

But if that’s you, stop talking about how you want more out of life. You’re only going to keep letting yourself down when you don’t go after it.

I’m not addressing those people right now.

I’m speaking to the people who aren’t content to stay where they are. The people who are dreaming big and connected to why they want to play a much bigger game.

And I want to ask you this: Instead of letting the inevitable obstacles stop you from pursuing your dreams, look them squarely in the eye and recognize what they really are: a test of your commitment.

If they are just a test, then every time you push forward, you’re like Popeye chugging a can of spinach: you’re getting stronger and stronger in the face of future obstacles.

The more you practice this, the stronger you get. At a certain point, you won’t even consider the possibility that anything can deter you from achieving your biggest, wildest dreams and goals.

That kind of fierce determination and sustained effort is necessary to make big things happen in life.

And it’s not easy. If it were, everyone would be doing it.

Now it may seem like everyone is doing it because a lot of people dip their toe in here and there. And when they do, they love to blast it all over social media.

But only a tiny sliver of those people give it a go and actually stick with it. That’s the hard part.

And that’s why I know that if you can stick with it, you will fly above the rest. It’s a guarantee.

Recently I spoke to a few people who told me they wanted to spend the next year putting themselves out there to build their reputation and authority to grow their business. But some of them prefaced that goal by saying, “And if it doesn’t work, I can always <fill in Plan B here>.”

I told them the same thing I tell myself: There can’t be a Plan B. If there is a Plan B, you will not succeed. Plan B means that when things get hard and challenges inevitably come up, you will let them stop you because you are not 100% committed to making this work.

So if you have a big goal, something you have been planning to work toward but haven’t fully committed to yet, I’ll leave you with this:

Ask yourself how much you really want it. And if you know it’s not actually that important, embrace that instead of always feeling inadequate because you are not doing the thing you were never going to do anyway.

But if you know you want it, if this is part of your life’s dream and purpose, ask yourself if you are ready to throw your Plan B out the window, pop open the spinach, and start building the muscle of someone who refuses to let anything get in the way

Look at each new challenge as an opportunity to double down and prove to yourself and your dream that there is nothing standing in your way. Decide today if this is you, and you will be unstoppable in 2020, I guarantee it.
